Thats surprisingI always assumed it was a play on Broken Top.

Re: Thats surprisingI had the same assumption. Broken Hand Fitzpatrick was a scout for John C. Fremont when he traveled through Central Oregon in 1843. The Oregon Board of Geographic Names recognized Fitzpatrick by naming the mountain after him.
