Broken Hand

Broken Hand

Broken Hand is next to Broken Top but does not appear to be part of Broken Top. Broken Hand (8,376 feet) was named for Thomas "Broken Hand" Fitzpatrick, a mountain man, who passed through Oregon in about 1843.

Re: Thats surprising

I had the same assumption. Broken Hand Fitzpatrick was a scout for John C. Fremont when he traveled through Central Oregon in 1843. The Oregon Board of Geographic Names recognized Fitzpatrick by naming the mountain after him.
