Since 1995 the Wasatch Mountain club out of Utah has been organizing October ski outings to the dunes. With Telemark gear the Dunes ski quite nicely and a free heel ski is actually a very easy way to climb sand. I'll attach a few ski photo's.

The Entrance Fee to get into the dunes is now $5 per vehicle.
