Burgundy Snail

Burgundy Snail

Burgundy Snails (Helix pomatia) are the largest land snails living in Poland. They can be found in lower sections of mountains. They like wet forests and feed on fresh leaves. Their shell is about 5 cm in diameter and it is big enough for the snail to retract its whole body in it. There are two pairs of tentacles located on the snail's head. The upper and longer ones bear the eyes, whereas the lower pair is used for smelling and feeling. Burgundy Snails can survive very cold winters thanks to hibernation.
