Calamari Crack, 5.9

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Calamari Crack, 5.9
4th Pitch- 60m- 5.8/ I did not sense much climbing beyond 5.7 on the entire route, including this pitch. Continue up the crack until it is possible to move over the slab on your left to a better crack on the left. I did a rope stretcher to reach a comfortable belay ledge, but you would have had to extend the previous pitch a full ropes length from that fixed belay below to achieve the same result. Belay with medium gear.
Calamari Crack, 5.9, 6 Pitches, Mount Norquay, Banff National Park, August, 2011

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
