Campa I and Campa II

Campa I and Campa II

Campa I and II from the NW, slightly further west of the pass. Campa I, on the left, is an easy climb. Campa II looks to be a different matter, but I couldn't find a description anywhere. 6 June 2011.

Campas

The toponomy here is very confusing, as you know. The Peruvian government 'Ocangate' topo calls these Nevado Huamantilla and Nevado Yanajaja. ie. Campa 1 & 2. Jill Neate's work also references a Campa 3, but I don't know what that is.

Re: Campas

Yeah, it's really confusing indeed. At one point, I asked my guide about the name of a mountain. Then, as I looked at my guidebook later on, it gave a different one. Of course, it makes sense that mountains in this area have two names, Quechua and Spanish, but the confusion goes way beyond that.

I didn't manage to get the Ocongate topo map. Tried to, but not very hard, because I had a guide with me who knew the area well.
