Original plan was different, but the rain changed it all. We slept (with my son) at the Stony Pass, it rained all night and I went for the peak during the break in rain.
The views were mostly cloudy, but still very spectacular.
Wildflowers around Stony pass are amazing!
For the main course we climbed South Lookout Peak & "V5" followed by lunch in Silverton. Then took advantage of the lightning-less afternoon and climbed Canby & "Stony Pass Peak" from Stony Pass. There were sheep grazing everywhere and scary guard dogs watching over them. We had to walk through the sheep herd. When we were on Canby, we could see that all the sheep had gathered around my 4runner! Wierd! These have to be the easiest 13ers in the state - about half an our each from the pass! Great views, big bang for your buck.
"After the first glass, you see things as you wish they were. After the second, you see things as they are not. Finally, you see things as they really are, which is the most horrible thing in the world."
