Quite the Photo!

I have NEVER seen the Castle Peak snowfield this ematiated! What a sight to behold! The resemblance the Glacier (and its receding glaciers) is striking. Even more stunning is the resulting sink hole that will no doubt contribute to the rock glacier's migration down slope. I bet this snow is missed, as this stuff would be miserable to navigate and descend. After all that time beneath the snow, it's got to be really loose. Those cracks around the tarn are impressive, it really shows how rapidly, actually, mountain erosion is under such extremes. Amazing for sure!

Re: Quite the Photo!

I think there might already be some migration. When we descended from the Conundrum saddle a couple years ago we passed the hole on the Conundrum side. On 8-29-09 it looked like the side hilling above the crevase would have been sketchy, so if we would have descended from the saddle, we would have gone on the Castle side of the hole.

Great shot, man..........
The hole is the hole, let all others feel what we all felt. Great, right? No need to elaborate....good, bad it will be what it is.
