Cookie Addictlots of manzanita and snakes  Sucess!

Cookie Addict

Went up the Ogre and some side routes. Saw way too many snakes :-) Been to the area twice and would like to stay a week or so up high in the park, climbing routes and playing the banjo or Uke by a fire. Some really prime, unpopulated routes to be found. The Shipman guidebook is great for the area

ShastaRe: park is closed

Just a minor correction from a local. Its soda creek exit. And it is the first exit north of the park exit. A little turn out leads you to the PCT. Follow this to the park trails.

Vinnypark is closed

had fun there but it should be noted that the park is clsed and you add an hour hike or so to get to boundary from the I-5- from soap creek exit (1 exit north of park exit)?

BaarbLost but fun!
Date Climbed: Dec 23, 2009

Was on the way to Mt. Shasta when I saw this area by the roadside and figured I'd have a detour. Camped overnight then took off down the trail and shortly lost it due to snow fall. Reckon I did some unintentional climbing on Six Toe Rock before seeing the real path far down below, retreating then heading up between Castle Crags and Castle Dome only to find non-shifting clouds and the beginnings of a blizzard. Amazingly atmospheric due to no-one else being around.
