| I started from Castle Lake and headed to Heart Lake. From there, I opted to make a loop hike of Castle Peak, by heading west/northwest to gain the ridge, south to the summit, and then east back down to near Heart Lake. Snow depth was 6 to 12 inches up high, but patchy to nonexistent down near Castle Lake on a warm, sunny day with great views. | |

| Climbed it once as a kid a while but more recently climbed with my Avalanche 1 course with Eric White. We dug a snow trench high up on the ridge and found no weak layers. | |
