Reservations

Is February busy enough that it'd be a good idea to make reservations in advance for the refuge?

If so, how can I do that?

Thanks.

Re: Reservations

It'd be a good idea to make reservations for the high climbing season (Dic - Feb), since Cotopaxi National Park is closed to the public due to its volcanic activity.

Re: Reservations

Thanks Boriss.
I haven't had any luck trying to reach them at those numbers or that e-mail address. Do you perhaps know of another way to get a hold of them?

Thanks.

Re: Reservations

Since you have to go with a guide now anyway, he/she should arrange the hut.

Re: Reservations

I've heard that the guide requirement is only enforced in more popular mountains like Chimborazo and Cotopaxi (before the eruption), but not in Cayambe. We're experienced mountaineers and would rather climb unguided if possible.

Does anyone have any input on this?

Re: Reservations

Cayambe is a popular mountain. In fact, now that Cotopaxi is closed it may be the most popular glaciated mountain in Ecuador (at least when conditions on Chimborazo are less than ideal). If you don't want to climb with a guide, it would be better to climb somewhere other than Ecuador or to some of the more remote mountains such as El Altar.
