| My wife and I hiked up the road on a showery day. It is a pleasant walk and I found it to be scenic as well. While we were there a group of bikers came up the trail decked in their leather gear and Harley jackets. | ||

| Get permission by email at charlesmound@gmail.com. Easy hike that's less than a mile each way from street. The path divides in 2 on the way up and on the way down. Stay to the left each time. The elevation gain is probably 200 feet over the hike. You can see Wisc and Iowa from the point. Didn't see anyone or any dogs/animals on the hike at 8:00am. We stayed at Chestnut Mountain Lodge the night before ($94 incl breakfast that starts at 8:00am), a "ski" lodge overlooking the Mississippi. They have a 2500 alpine slide during the summer. It's about 20 minutes away. | ||

| This was our 4th of 5 highpoints over 4th of July weekend, originally planned for Sunday morning. We made good time on Saturday, so decided to visit this one Saturday evening and were rewarded with a beautiful sunset. We saw a deer eating the farmer's corn along the way. HP14 | ||

| Redwic | Show Respect For The Owners!!! ![]() Date Climbed: Jul 6, 2008 | |
| Outside of a brief friendly e-mail correspondence in advance, I have never encountered the owners of this HP. With that said, looking through the Summit Register, they are probably annoyed by people trespassing on dates other than ones they have specified. Please be respectful of the owners' dates, to help ensure the public is continued to be granted access to this State HP. The HP, itself, had a great view and was a nice walk through farmland. Multiple Geological Society markers at the summit. This was the sixth of seven HPs attained on my most ambitious weekend HP road trip to date. | ||

| Last of a 5 HP string on a serious road trip from upstate NY. Had to rearrange things to arrive on the weekend, but we made it happen. Beautiful day, but the bugs were horrific! That helped us make record time both up and down! All said and done--5 HP's and over 3,200 miles in just 4 1/2 days! Great trip! | ||

| CALLED OWNER AFTER FLYING TO OH FROM LAS VEGAS AND RENTING A CAR TO DO 17 HIGHPOINTS FROM MN TO LA AND BACK UP THE SE AREA. WAS DENIED ACCESS AND INVITED BACK DURING THE BRIEF OPEN DATES...LIKE I'M GOING TO BOTHER. AFTER 46 STATES, ONLY DENALI MIGHT BE OF INTEREST IF EXPEDITION CLIMBING BEGINS TO SEEM WORTH THE EFFORT. I'M HAPPY SKIPPING NJ, DE AND IL...IT'S BEEN A GREAT ADVENTURE | ||

| I didn't realize that there were only specific access dates. I drove 175 miles to get there. Parked outside the fence and hiked the last mile up. A very peaceful highpoint. | ||

| I had to call the owner to get permission to get there... They were very nice but I heard that everything is changed now...They don't want people going there at any dates... We parked at the front gate near the road... and walked all the way to the top...Just as we got to the summit, we saw a car full with 4 or 5 people driving by us and going to the top... Come on, they could have walked for a change... the HP was close enough!! | ||

| Made the LONG drive out there from NJ! 970 miles. One way. That's crazy. Glad it's over and done with. Not much to say. It's only open 4 weekends a year. So had to make a crazy trip to notch this on my highpoint belt. | ||

| Since the Illinois highpoint is only open 4 weekends per year we decided to drive down and climb it. 495 miles round trip. When we got to the gate there were several cars there and we met many friendly highpointers on the trail and at the summit and traded HP experiences. Lovely day and a nice view of the corn and soybean fields of Northern Illinois. HP #16. | ||

| Very interesting. The owners were very nice, and the hike was quite peaceful. The summit is maintained very well, and the view of Wisconsin is idyllic. Plus, nearby is Galena (U.S. Grant) and Dyersville (Field of Dreams). | ||

| A beautiful fall day to summit the mound. I met the Wuebbels in their office in town, and they were very gracious once they determined I was a real Highpointer and not just a tourist. This highpoint is a great spot to sit and think and savor a quiet landscape. | ||
