Chestnut Oaks

Chestnut Oaks
Chestnut Oaks (quercus prinus) is a dominant tree on the drier sides of the ridge. The bark is very tough and thick and so somewhat fire resistant. The nuts are fairly edible for an oak and kind of big. You would have to cook them a while to remove the tannic acid. This tree is not native to Butler County but makes an appearance here in mid Ohio.
