I went up the usual climbers' trail on the northwest side of the summit. At first I ended up on a slightly lower summit about 100 feet to the east of the true summit, but then I retraced my route and went up to the top.
After that, I traversed the ridge to the east and went up onto Peak 6429, which overlooks the basin north of Klahhane Ridge. The ridge was tricky but not too bad. Then I went straight down to the intersection of the Klahhane Ridge and Heather Park Trails, and that was awful. Loose, broken scree that in some places was deep enough to "surf" down, but in others was just a thin coating over steep questionable rock. I actually think going UP the east side might not be too bad, because there are a lot of chunks of semi-buried solid rock that you could get a toehold on... but descending it was a bad idea.

Nice Hike
We went up the Switchback Trail. It is pretty steep going but not terrible. Trail description on the Climbers Route is accurate. It probably worked out to about 2.5 miles one way. Scrambling is not difficult and there are no serious exposure to a fall. Unfortunately for us, the weather gave us limited visibility.
Great hike, well worth doing. Don't listen to the people at the Visitor Center who discouraged us from going that route.

Super fun scramble
The summit block is sooo much fun, you can climb it differntly every time. Ranging from class 2 to class 5+ if youd like some trad climbing.
