Cold bivvy above timberline, Gagpi Pass, Altay

We did not have enough time to descent to timberline on Kara-Ayry, and camped in the upper basin in a wider section of the valley which we deemed safe from the avalanches. It was a breezy night, completely obliterating our downtrack by dawn, and leaving a nice half-moon drift around our protective wall of snow-blocks. A single gas burner for a crew of four would have made us wait for breakfast for too long. So in the morning, we opted to continue down, away from the wind, and to have brunch in the Sun with a Siberian Cedarwood campfire. Day 6 of our March 1988 Altay ski tour.
