Common Poorwill on Jacobs Ladder.

Common Poorwill on Jacobs Ladder.

This cool looking bird, called the Common Poorwill, has given me some company during the early morning ascents up Lone Peak throughout this year. I've seen them from the Ghost Falls trail head in Corner Canyon up Jacob's Ladder to about 8,500 feet. They are a nocturnal, and usually will be sitting on the trail, fluttering away once I get close enough. This particular bird just sat there, letting me get this picture. I first noticed these birds on pre-dawn ascents a couple years ago up there. Their eyes reflect back a really cool looking lavendar color from the light from my headlamp, depending on the angle.
