confusing sign (pic 6)

Located right at the pass is this somewhat (to me anyway) confusing sing. The sign kind of pointed to the wrong Ears but the topo map (and later GPS) were very clear, the East Ear was higher. I think the key to determining the correct elevation via the sign was how you positioned yourself in relation to it. It did seem to point to the East Ear as lower but if the sign were re positioned (moved), it might then be able to offer correct information. (Now I'm sure I've confused everyone with the informative caption - sorry)
