Cougar kill?

Spine and pelvis from (I believe) a mule deer. There were tons of deer in the fields and meadows here. Not sure if this is a cougar kill or perhaps some drunk rednecks (evidence of that species near the trailhead and on the old jeep road that parallels the river at the base of the peak). Were a number of carcasses and skeletons in this area.
