Summit beer  Sucess!

The girl I was hiking with brought a couple of cold brews to the summit without my knowledge. Pleasant surprise.

Perfect day  Sucess!

Easy hike from Windigo Pass and a short scramble gave us fantastic views in all directions. Thanks for this great page, Brian.

Hot in October  Sucess!

Came in from Timpanogas TH. Hit Sawtooth first and then hit Cow Horn. 15 miles, 5000 elevation gain. It was a great sunny day in mid October.

South Ridge  Sucess!

Climbed the south ridge from Windigo Pass. It was a very pleasant day for a hike and the PCT is an excellent trail. The climbers' route is fun. It is very scenic on the summit. Met several "through hikers" on the return - heard 1300 permits had been issued this year (2014).

Windigo Pass and PCT  Sucess!

Hiked while at Camp Makualla Scout camp. Saw a few PCT hikers. Warm but lots of shade. Fun scramble at the top.

South Ridge  Sucess!

A cold summer, Mosquito's and snow drifts meant we were the first to tackle the south ridge this year. All and all the route is a nice easy grade, the mosquito's however kept it challenging.

From Windigo Pass  Sucess!

This is a beautiful hike and climb from Windigo Pass. The PCT is a great trail and the climber's trail up to the summit is easy to follow. Beautiful views in all directions.

I hiked for 3 hours from Windigo Pass to reach the geocache put about 400' horizontal and 150' vertical from the top. I didn't have the energy or nerve to try the top. There were several places on the PCT above 7100' elevation that still had more than a foot of snow on July 15.

long ago  Sucess!

Climbed this one with an ex, had a good time, although I do remember we went up there without adequate bug spray and getting eaten alive for two days. Nice little summit scramble, neat geology. Climbed it from a camp at the pass above Indigo Lake, ascended Sawtooth Mtn. the day before.

Up the south ridge  Sucess!

Good visibility, nice easy grade, overall a pretty lazy little saturday stroll up an old cascade volcano. After summiting cowhorn hiked about halfway to sawtooth before turning back. Neat area. Saw quite a few dead trees that had been ripped apart by bears along the trail, didnt see much wildlife though, just a fiesty rock chuck. Road was in great condition, minimal washboarding.

South Ridge  Sucess!

Beautiful day, temp in 60's and sunny. My son and I started from the trailhead at 3:15. Enjoyable hike on PCT, very fun scramble to the top. Went at leisurly pace, summited at 6PM. Took a GPS reading on summit, was 43.24N 122.03W. Elevation was 7631. Views of Mt. Thielsen and Diamond Peak were outstanding, views towards the Sisters and Bachelor were very hazy due to fires in that area. Left summit at 6:30. Once we reached the PCT, stepped up the pace due to not wanting to be eaten alive. Reached trailhead at 8:10. An outstanding hike/scramble. I recommend it highly.

Route Climbed: south ridge. Date Climbed: August 13th 2005  Sucess!

I hatched the plan to climb sawtooth while I was at work on a saturday for the second week in a row. I was not going to be kept from the mountains for two straight weekends. I arrived at the trailhead at windigo pass and proceeded down the trail at 3:15 pm. I hauled ass I wasn"t sure of the difficulty that lay ahead and didn't feel like hiking back in the dark this day. The section of the P.C.T. between windigo and cowhorn is very nice. I would like to come back and Back pack this section. There is some warnings from fellow hikers that tracking down water for drinking is a big pain in the ass. Cowhorn is a nice little mountain. Pretty straight forward route. The scree is a bit of a pain as scree will be. The finish is nice and the views of crescent and summit lakes are good. Diamond peak reigns supreme in these parts. I will have to hike the connecter between cowhorn and sawtooth soon.

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: August 3, 2001  Sucess!

Five of us hiked cross country from Windy Lakes

to PCT then up Cowhorn Mtn. Nice weather, but

low broken overcast prevented us from seeing the

major Cascade peaks. View down to Cresent Lake

was great. Nice smallish summit. Fun scramble

over pretty yellow and red volcanic rock.

Route Climbed: South Ridge Date Climbed: October 26, 2002  Sucess!

Somewhat sunny start to the day that turned to cloudy and kind of snowy. Easy hike to the shoulder and light scramble up to the top. Surrounding peaks looked like islands in an ocean of clouds. Was going to continue on to Sawtooth but decided to drive around and do that one separately and see if the weather deteriorated further. Lots of gunshots from hunters in the forests nearby. Cool looking mountain though.
