Dangerous Snow Covered Stream on JMT
This picture was taken July 8, 2008 on the John Muir Trail (heading North to South) after coming across Muir Pass heading down the JMT. Note the water running very fast under the snow. The JMT crossed over the stream you see in this picture; luckily, it was sturdy enough not to have a problem. We did not know we were crossing a stream until we had done so because we were coming down from the top of the snow shown in the picture and then we became aware of the stream shown here after we had crossed it. This picture, however, made me glad we crossed when we did and that all went well. One could imagine it might have been a little more problematic at a different point in time with different melt.
