Dead sentinels

Dead sentinels

Dead bristlecone pines near Wheeler Peak, Great Basin National Park, Nevada. Some of the bristlecone pines here have been dated at more than 4,000 years old through dendrochronology. Bristlecones can remain standing for hundreds of years after death, falling over only when the supporting root structure has decayed or eroded. Photo taken 7/25/07.
