Deadly traverse

Deadly traverse
Richard Patterson on the traverse around the first pothole in Miners Hollow/Knotted Rope Canyon. Falling can have deadly consequences, so use extreme caution. In July 2007, unfortunately Marie Coray fell on the traverse, broke her arm and died of hypothermia in the cold waters of the pothole because neither she nor her partner could extract her before she slowly died.

We brought crevasse rescue gear for a haul system in case of any mishaps, but the traverse is realitively easy and the canyon in general was much easier than expected. Even so, a haul system should be standard equipment on any technical canyon with potholes. Be safe out there.
