Death Trap above U-Notch
Incredible. Rapping down North Palisade into the U-Notch on our way to Polemonium Peak this past Saturday, August 2, 2008, we were looking for an anchor and saw this one from above. I couldn't believe it. Even from 30 feet above, I was able to spot a rock that could serve as a solid anchor just below the rock this webbing is "attached" to. My partner Glenn G. got down to the death trap and, with just a gentle yank with one finger, the red webbing slid off the rock like melted butter. We used the webbing and the huge ring attached to it on the rock below, the life-and-difference being that we could wedge the back of the webbing well down the back of the rock with no chance of it slipping up.
