Crest.I love that section of trail. Last time I hiked it I had a 40-lb pack on my back.

Re: Crest.Hard Core Bob! My niece and I ran across a group of about 20 teenagers-all had at least 40lbs on their backs. Looked like a doozie for a few of them!

Re: Crest.just redid the whole thing with a pack on my back. I felt like a Paul Simon song "Slip-Slidin Away"!

Re: Crest.Cool! Overnighter? If so, where did you camp? Deep Gap? Did you start at Mitchell and walk down to Bolens Creek, or the other way 'round?

Re: Crest.we started at Mitchell and camped at Deep Gap. Went back the next day.
Nervous about going from the other way-I did Celo from Woody Ridge...not easy!

Re: Crest.I did Woody Ridge, too. What a hike, eh?! It's tougher than coming up from Bolens Creek.

Re: Crest.Oh! I thought that (WRT) was the start of Bowlens Creek. Hmm, maybe I will give it a shot going the other way. I enjoyed camping at deep gap.

Re: Crest.Nope. The Black Mountain Crest Trail makes one long, twelve-mile run from Bolens Creek (aka Bowlens Creek) to Mount Mitchell. The Deep Gap site is roughly half way. The climb from Bolens Creek to Celo Knob is higher than from the Woody Gap trailhead, but not *quite* as steep. It's a real thigh-burner, though!
You haven't done the entire Crest Trail until you've gone all the way down to the Bolens Creek terminus (or up from there).
