Dennis signing the register atop lofty Mt. Grafton. Actually, the summit is a disappointment as wood remnants litter the area. A benchmark and red can register are found inside the cairn that marks the summit area.

You mean 2x4's and stuff? Many Nevada peaks have these things there left over from survey platforms. The ones on N. Shoshone Peak, for instance, are still intact.

I saw one that looked like it had been used for a basketball backboard. I looked at it and said, "nah, no way"



I was thinking maybe a lookout but your explanation of survey platform makes sense. I have to admire the guys who carried all that stuff up there.
