Dent Jaune
Waking up at the Refuge Du Midi, occupied by a great man named Jean, We made our cross over the glacier for the Dent Jaune. It was a very clear and spectacular day. Made summit early, and hiked all the way back to champery that afternoon. The descent was not to bad. Water was scarce, we drank from the glacier and it was perfect.
Starting from Grande Paradis on the 9th,we climbed via Rossetan rather than Bonavau and were rewarded by a fantastic view of the La Saufla waterfall as we emerged from the forest. The day was perfect through the Pas d'Encel and we stayed overnight at the Susanfe hut. Beautiful sunset and Alpen Glow on Mont Ruon Glacier.
Perfect day next day. Could see all the major peaks from the top of Haute Cime.
Returned by Bonavau. Exhausted but happy!!
Route Climbed: Haute Cime Date Climbed: 5 Oct. 2002
Wonderful weather for being in October. The top is close to Lac Leman (Geneva lake) but there was a sea of clouds so we couldn't see the lake but as we were over the clouds we had a wonderful view over the Alpes. We (me, Thomas and Anders) started walking 8 in the morning and we were back to the car around 7-ish in the evening. Tough walk but worth it!

Haute CimeI arrived the day before in Champéry, went straight up to the Cabane de Susanfe, spent the night just a bit above the hut in my bivouac sack, then climbed the Haute Cime the next morning. Technically it's not difficult at all, but you need to be in good shape to go up that path! There's the ledge on 3056 metres marked in the map of the Swiss Federal National Topography as "Col des Paresseux". The moment I arrived on that ledge, the one bit that's flat on a relentlessly steep ascent of 800 metres, I understood why! ;-)
