Descending the 1st Sella Tower (normal route)

The normal route is mostly used for the descent, and though it has one short bit of UIAA grade III, it's mostly easy scrambling and hiking. This picture is typical for the kind of terrain. Sometimes the exposure is significant, much higher than here, and you really don't want to fall. Fortunately, the short crux is right at the bottom of the route, and if you slip there, you can't fall more than about five meters until reaching safe, flat ground again. With an awkward landing, you might break an ankle or a leg, but that's about it. 3 Aug 2016.
