Detail from Mudna Dol

Detail from fantastic Mudna Dolina canyon which is on many sections very narrow, on spots down to only 1m! Toughest spots and jumps are secured but rest is left for fun. It is 2h long scramble in claustrophobic environment which has amazing atmosphere. I can only imagine how spectacular it must be when water thunders through it. Unfortunately canyon is impassable then (for ordinary mortals) but fortunately that rarely happens. Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Mudna doline after heavy rain

I saw a Mudna Dolina canyon after heavy rain and in such condition it is really impassable. In July 1992 I started a hike with group of my friends (ascending through the canyon) it started light rain and when we reached the end of rocky part (the most interesting part), about 2 hours later, it was pouring and small creek already appeared on the bottom of the canyon. We decided to go back using ridge trail and after an hour or so under heavy rain and thunders we reached the beginning of the canyon (rather large on that part) filled with knie-deep water running extremely fast. How it was at that time in the middle of canyon I can't even imagine - hell at its worst, I guess.

Unfortunately, this fast running water caused an injury - one girl in our group had an ankle twisted while crossing that rapid unclear stream so we had to carry her 20 minutes to the closest point reachable by 4WD. Thanks to God, the injury was not very serious ...

Re: Mudna doline after heavy rain

Thanks Vanja for sharing your personal experience with raging water in Mudna Dol! It is very useful to know what one can encounter here.
