All that is left of the Diamond Glacier.
In this picture (taken December 2007), the clearly visible difference between the clean and weathered rock illustrates the immense volume of ice that has been lost in just 25 years. Having climbed the mountain many times, I was saddened to see it in this state. The massive ice flow and icicles that formed the "window" in the classic "Ice Window Route" have completely melted. Its now a rock climb!
I will be posting more pictures in the near future showing the mountain in recent years, and as it was in the late seventies.
I am going back for one more time this coming Christmas to climb it with my son, and from the pace of the decline, I fully expect the Diamond Glacier to have completely disappeared by then.
