Snidely Whiplash

Beautiful views but a very crowded summit.

Date Climbed: Jul 5, 2010

I definitely need to get back to this one. I did it with snow that bypassed much of the switchbacking and had no views at all. Completely socked in from the TH to the summit.

The hike up was fairly pleasant minus the one point where the trail is easily lost. After several steps up the trail appears to go straight into a flat snowfield. Circling back the trail switches back just prior. Cornice still fairly well intact and a little glissading was in order on the way down.

MachSixGood Trainer  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 11, 2010

Was just looking for a day climb in the area and this fit the bill. Good hike, and a great trainer (weight up those packs!)
A small layer of snow is still on the ground starting where the trail levels out (~4.7k ft) to the top. In the snow, I stayed off the packed down path in favor of my own steps as the path was a bit sloppy.
Great view for enjoying a snow cooled summit beer

With lots of snow left from the large waterfall up and the warmest day of the year, I decided on a 4am start. Amazing morning. Not a cloud in the sky and firm snow. Took an hour nap on the summit and was back at my truck around 9:30am.

Cascade Scrambler

Kicked fresh steps all the way up from the largest waterfall to the summit. First two to reach the summit today. Cut time and distance off our trip by ascending the obvious couloir shorly after the largest waterfall- it won't be in much longer. Fantastic views as always, had a chance to see Glacier for about three minutes before it was obscured by clouds.

I haven't had a post-hole wallow like that in a while. One of our group forgot his snowshoes, so, like gentlemen (read: suckers), the rest of us left our snowshoes behind. And then the wallow began. The heavy rain at trailhead turned into snow up above, and visibility was pretty poor. Not totally socked in, but not much in the way of views, especially over to Big Four and Morningstar. Sound like a rotten time? Not at all. It was still a fun romp in the woods, we ate great sandwiches, had nice cigars and, because we're not TOTAL idiots, we each took a pint of good beer with us. Two of us summitted; I wasn't one of them. Oh well, next time.

During my Senior year of highschool. Remember being really cold and there was lots of snow. Also remember story about 2 trailrunners running to their death off the trail over a cliff, can't forget that history. Views to rival the Alps and even better flora - spent three and a half hours hiking up, due to stopping so often for photos.

Looks like the trail continues over Twin Peaks to Forgotten - if I ever come back, I'll bring enough water to try this (or not hike in the afternoon during a record heat wave and drought).

This was my first hike in the Verlot area. The day was miserable at the trailhead but after 30 switchbacks we were above the worst of it. I counted 62 in total. That's right 62 switchbacks! Pilchuck, 3Fingers, Whitehorse, Whitechuck, Sloan, and Delcampo, all had clouds around the base or coming off the summit. beautiful.

I got off work early so I called Gareth for a last-minute hike. Some people coming down said to watch out for 3 feet of snow on the summit but it turned out to be only half that much. Not a cloud in the sky. Lovely!

The OSAT Car Camp went up Dickerman. I remember laying out a dozen cameras for some poor passer-by to take all of our pictures together, once with each camera!
