Sickening Avalanche on the East Face of Columbia Point. April 30, 2007. High temps created this 2000 ft. point release slide. Our ascent actually crossed slide path (cairned)along the top of the rock band just 100 ft below starting point. We were ahead of it by about 120 min. Wisely decided to descend ridge-crest due to obviously loose conditions. Descended 45 before slide. Whew. |
