East from the shoulder of the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais

I was about to drop down this 1,200' ridge. Half way down I slipped on a wet boulder and snapped my thumb at the upper joint. Holding it in place against my fingers I continued on down another mile in a state of mild shock and spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening lounging in the local ER. Going home, fractured thumb sewn up in a splint. I was out hiking next day. Even though it looked bloody and dramatic there was very little pain involved. January '10

Not good

The thumb situation, not the pic. The pic is great. I broke a finger in a similar fashion on Mt Whitney a few years back and also spent the afternoon in the ER room in Lone Pine. It does put a damper on things but isn't a stopper.

You're right Dean. A toe would be another matter!
