| I hiked Elk Knob twice in April. The first hike being on a sunny and seasonal day. Wildflowers were starting to bloom. It had been a cold morning, so there were pipkrakes along the trail. That was the only sign of winter holding on. Well, a few weeks later, I hiked up on the tail end of a nice snowstorm. Winter was back as the mountain was socked in. Rime ice and about 6-8 inches of snow covered everything. Typical spring weather in the NC highcountry. |
