| A group of us hiked the trail, then to the Rock Rooms. All of our group climbed through the upper portion of the Rock Rooms. Only 3 members continued down and out on the south side of Elk Mt. The rest of us exited the Rock Rooms and headed in a westerly direction to a steep canyon on the SW side near the Apple and the Pear and descended to the valley below. We all met on the trail and headed back to Sunset via the Valley of Boulders. | |

| Hiked up via the class 1 Elk Mountain Trail. Ventured over to the base of the summit boulder, then returned via Apple and Pear, and through Valley of Boulders. Great day to be out in the wilderness .. but aren't they all? --mark d. | |
