| Left truck, before/below TH, @ 7.55. Still hungover from whisky & beer consumed as a result of previous night’s fight. Last night less than ideal... Left Huerfano TH @ 8.10. Got lost on trail leading to Lily Lake- shitty signage! Getting up ‘approach’ wall even more intimidating than it originally looked- loose rubble all over ledges, steep, exposed, & sustained. Super glad when I finally reached the ridge crest & it was over, but nervous about descending it (thought of having to go down it in a storm terrifying). Definitely the crux of the climb. I’d agree w/ Roach’s given rating of 5.2. Remainder of ridge delightful! A few sections of 4th & easy 5th (if one wanted it), but mostly just fun 2nd & 3rd class. Summited @ 11.47. Enjoyed beautiful views (esp. of Blanca & Little Bear), & spoke briefly w/ a guy who came up the standard route. Clouds moving in, so left summit @ 12.06. Went to Lily Lake (where wrote this), as in no particular rush to get back to camp… @ base of wall @ 13.30. Back @ TH @ 16.55, & @ car 17.10. | ||

| Woodie Hopper | Ridge traverse from Blanca ![]() Date Climbed: Aug 4, 2012 | |
| Traversed from Blanca after completing the Little Bear-Blanca traverse. Dark clouds were building, so I hiked quickly from the saddle. Long day since I started from ~8,500ft in the valley. | ||

| decided to come back and climb this. Started at about 9800 feet on the Lake Como road. Pretty straightforward. Ended up traversing over to Blanca to repeat my 1988 climb | ||

| Classic route up a beautiful ridge line. Solid and fun class III all the way from the upper lake to the summit of Ellingwood. The descent through the talus wasn't fun, but the hike was great. Not sure I want to repeat the trudge up the Como Lake road in daylight! | ||

| Great winter climb. No snow on the road until we reached the Como Lake drainage (Holbrook Creek). The snowpack on the peaks is pretty shallow, with faceted crystals covered by sun crust. | ||

| walked the Class 3 ridge from Blanca. very convenient. The views of the massif are amazing and rugged. Hung out on the summit hour and half just enjoying sunshine and others company. Great time!! Scrambled to the bottom of the basin to find the trail. | ||

| Meetup.com trip. We climbed Blanca first, then partly followed the ridge to Ellingwood Point. The leader brought his dog, so we had to drop down into the bowl and find and easier way up. There was no clearly marked trail, but we eventually made our way up the loose talus to the summit. Then we headed back to Lake Como, napped for a little bit before hiking the 6 miles back down the (expletive) Como Lake Road. | ||

| Ellingwood is only about an hour from the summit of Blanca, so you might as well bag it. It's easier and more solid than it looks. Camping at Lake Como is what CO is all about. | ||

| tagged this as an afterthought on the best classic 14er traverse in CO. at least it looks like a peak, unlike a lot of other bumps on ridges Tr here http://zoomloco.xanga.com/732717261/purple-mountain-majesties/ | ||

| After Gash Ridge and Blanca, I tried continuing down Ellingwood's North Ridge, but about 13,450 feet ran into 5th class choss down-climbing. Decided to return over Ellingwood's summit and made the long walk down Lake Como Road. | ||
