Little Annapurna/Enchantment Peak -- Single Day  Sucess!

This was potentially the last weekend with summer condition, so decided to give it something extra. Pro tip, don't do these in the same day. This time of year, start in the dark, end in the dark. Beautiful weather and views. Colors are losing their gold and starting to go brown. Little Annapurna certainly had some snow and ice, but it was easy to navigate around. Enchantment Peak was completely dry. Did the NE summit. The very short summit scramble is solid and a nice break from the chossy route to the top.

South Face  Sucess!

Tried to shortcut the route by going up the south face. I ended up going up some exposed 4th/low 5th class to get to the meadows below the summit block. I descended the standard down to Prussik Pass.

Day hike via Aasgard  Sucess!

Traversed up from Aasgard and got the summit. As others have said, the last 10 feet is maybe class 4 for one move with no exposure. Best viewpoint of the Enchantments, in my opinion. After getting the summit we dropped down to Prusik Pass and checked out Gnome Tarn and Prusik Peak before making our way back through the upper basin and down to the car. Beautiful!

Almost made it

Last 15 feet were beyond my skill level and I was too tired to push it. I waited for Josh and Matt while gazing around.

From Cannon Mountain  Sucess!

After out NW ridge climb of Cannon we went to Prusik Pass and headed up Enchentment HP the same day. Long loop as we went out Aasgard and past Colchuck to return. Fun scramble...summit block is an easy class 4 move with little exposure.

A Great ending!  Sucess!

Great ending, this was certainly the most out of the way peak of our grand adventure, but it was worth the effort.

Enchantment Slam!  Sucess!

In a two-day span with great weather and great snow conditions, Gimpilator, Josh Lewis, and I summited Colchuck Peak, then Dragontail Peak, then Little Annapurna, and finally Enchantment Peak. Over 10000' of cumulative elevation gain!

We visited Enchantment Peak after Little Annapurna. We could see some people climbing nearby Prusik Peak at the same time. We first visited the northeast summit of the three southwest contours, which some maps show as the highest point with the southwest-most contour, but that point we went to was obviously lower that the southwest-most or northeast-most summits. The NE summit is at least 30'-40' higher than anything in the middle of the summit ridge. The vertical scramble at the summit is certainly not for everyone, but we did it OK. Great views from the summit.

NE Summit  Sucess!

Ascended toward the NE summit directly from the north end of Enchantment Lake. Discovered some excellent campsites in the cliffs on the way up.

summit push in 20  Sucess!

We got a late start and some in the party were worried about daylight, so they waited on the shoulder and two of us raced up to the summit and back in 20 minutes. Fun last scramble with nice exposed triangle summit block.

Fun hike with a nice little scramble at the top. Best views around. Was gonna grab Cannon next but the clouds rolled in with some snow as soon as I got off the summit block.

Scramble  Sucess!

We were planning something more technical but after doing Prussik peak the day before the thought of light packs was appealing.

Route Climbed: Prussik Pass route - northeast summit Date Climbed: August 15, 1988  Sucess!

I had two of my sons on this trip and a bunch of varsity level scouts. We had camped out on Rune Lake and while some of the boys fished, the rest of us went up Prussik Pass to climb Enchantment Peak. A fun scramble and the first peak of any kind for most of the boys (14-16 year olds) Amazingly, it was the first time I'd been on this peak, and didn't realize until just recently that it was counted as one of the top 100 peaks in Washington.
