Not far up Death Hollow from the Escalante are some excellent perfectly clear swimming holes. They are well worth the side trip.
This river system needs a multi-day backpacking trip to explore all of the side branches. Maybe sometime in the future.
Any recommendations on which direction to take? I noticed you went upstream. Any advantages to doing it that way?
We were staying in the town of Escalante so my wife dropped me off at the bridge on Route 12 and I walked back to town. Going downstream may be a little easier (There is still a long walk from the trailhead in Escalante to town).
What a very cool hike for a beautiful day in September! I think it would kill me to have to go in to work the day after a hike like this.
Thanks for looking and voting, Good thing I did it on the first day of my 6 day vacation in Escalante. Coming back to work is always a drag.
