Plants with taste contents of a legume… sometimes poisonous…

Wood Vetch...

Purple form of...

Plants of this family have a broad distribution in the world. In mountains they are very attractive thanks to their large colourful flowers, mostly white, yellow, blue or purple. Morphology of the flower is so original that almost everybody can recognize them. An upper petal is in the form of a standard, on both lateral sides we see wing petals and in the lower part two petals are joint together in the form of the keel. Legume plants grow as annuals, perrenials, trees, shrubs and vines. Many species are crops very useful for people and livestock, e.g. peas, beans, soybean, clovers, lupines and alfalfa. Seeds in pods or a vegetative body of the plant are the food for us and our animals. In mountains we can observe most often some species of the following genera: Trifolium, Medicago, Astragalus, Genista, Oxytropis, Vicia, Ononis, Lathyrus and Anthyllis.
