False Summits of Coffin Peak

[ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
False Summits of Coffin Peak
Two of the four false summits of Coffin Peak. The one one the left is Point 5410, and the easiest way up Coffin goes over that point, heads two a saddle between the two false summits beyond it, crosses the southern of those two summits, "climbs" yet another false summit, and then descends to a saddle beneath the actual summit. The mountain does not look interesting from this view, but the actual peak's south face is incredibly rugged, and views are outstanding. The south ridgeline on Coffin's 5410' false summit also offers some fun Class 3 and 4 scrambling and even a little Class 5 if one wants it.
