Female Rufous Hummingbird

[ Sizes: Orig | Small | Thumb ]
Female Rufous Hummingbird
Photographed on top of Big Falls in the Spring Mountains, Nevada.
Summer 2007.

Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world and are recognized as the second largest family (Trochilidae) in the New World. They are found only in the New World (North, Central and South America), from the steamy tropics, mountains, to desert areas.
They have the ablility to hoover and fly backwards, which is impressive to watch.

Thank you. They are my favorite birds and she was a lovely friend I visited twice this summer by the spring on top of Big Falls. Very pleasant place. No wonder she liked to hang out there.
