Fern Lake

This 800-foot-long lake, at 9100 feet, sits in a granite cup at the base of Carson Peak and San Joaquin Mountain. Fern Lake is a good staging area to bag the summit of Class 1 San Joaquin Mountain. The route up San Joaquin's northwest slope is obvious at the head of the small cirque to the right. Sierra Nevada, California. June 2011.
