Above Modane, a huge fortress is guarding the road by the valley. It is Fort Victor-Emmanuel, near Esseillon village. Between the round bastion in front and the main fort complex there is a precipituous gorge, where you can choose between the Devil's Bridge and even two ferratas which climb over the walls. Behind is Pointe de la Fournache. May, 2013.
