Clarity

Even though the air and view was at its clearest, clarity came more from the first ascent in tough conditions and the many battles after. Hemmed in by blowing mists, hard and icy sections, and fear and commitment itself, through which I drew on every skill that I possess. And drew on others that I never knew I had.

My comment on the photo itself. A great example of how not to stand at a summit. I met someone up there who took it. What a dumb head.

In most cases, better not to dominate the frame, nor be centred in the picture. Try to squat aside the summit or make a respectful pose, and show some angles in the body. See Tenzing at the summit of Everest. That's just so right.
