Hello Tracer. Thank you for your kind message. What I did was return a couple of weeks later, slept at one of the open Whitney Portal camp sites (first come first served) to help with acclimatization, then early in the morning, I drove back down to Lone Pine to the Eastern Sierra Interagency Visitor Center for when they opened (get there at 8:00am) and got a walk-in permit. This will be easiest to get if you are alone. You can also rent a bear canister there for a small fee. Nice to hear you made it up laterI have a permit for this saturday May 7th but forecast is showing a foot of snow for the summit and 7degree temps. Not looking good for me.
