Glacier National Park, MT

Polebridge Mercatile a landmark on the west side of Glacier National Park. Was destroyed by fire during the extreme 1988 Yellowstone Fire season. UPDATE: It was NOT destroyed by fire, rather it still lives on!

Polebridge

The Mercantile is still there. A most interesting place.
Just for the record, Polebridge is just outside of the park, but is the gateway to Bowman and Kintla Lakes.

Re: Polebridge

Hey Thanks for the info. That's funny you should write as I talked to someone a few weeks ago and they told be it was still there...so much for the rummor of a fire. Glad its still around, it's a unique spot.

Re: Polebridge

That's what I understand, I was in Polson when the fire went through and it was said that the Mercantile had burned, I never had a chance to go back up and see.I was up there to check out Bowman Lake, that was before the fire. I had hoped to get up that way last summer, well it didn't happen so once again I am wishing for this year to make the trip. Whatever, Glacier Country is someting special that everyone should explore.

Stumblingbear,
The fire did great damage to the surrounding area, but Polebridge is still there.
It is a place to experience.
