glaze ice

glaze ice

Glaze ice on semi-alpine shrubs on Mt Monadnock. Glaze ice forms when liquid water (rain or fog) contacts a cold surface. The resulting ice is amorphous (glassy) and clear. In contrast, rime, like snow, consists of many tiny crystals and is white. Jan 16, 2006
