Goat Trail and Merritt

Goat Trail and Merritt

Near Ptarmigan Tunnel, the goat trail sneaks around this shoulder and views south and west open up dramatically. Here, Mount Merritt, with Old Sun Glacier, offers a sampling of what is about to come. Glacier National Park, MT-- August 2009

Re: Holy cow

You have to get out to Glacier, Tim. It will really blow your mind. That's all I can say.

Re: Holy cow

I am sure - if you go back there next summer and need a partner, let me know! I'm heading up to Kirwin tomorrow to get the Spar summit...

I love this shot...

...as it gives a sense of scale at how big these mountains are. Capturing such is not easy...good job! (Nice new snow on top, too....)

Re: I love this shot...

Thanks again, Vernon. Many of the higher peaks got some pretty good snow the days I was there. On Friday, when I first did the traverse, there was nothing on Gable. You can see in the "nice day" shot on the page the difference. Wilbur, Gould, Siyeh, and even Henkel got a nice bit, Siyeh and Gould especially. A strange August indeed!

Excellent pictures

What a great group of pictures. For some reason, the goat trail kind of hiking/climbing doesn't appeal to me (my wussmeter goes way up).

Thanks, Dean. But give it a try; I think you'd like it!
