Gold-back Fern (Pentagramma triangularis)

This small fern is found in the west U.S. and is generally uncommon over much of its range. It prefers seasonally moist hillsides and outcrops that may become very dry by summer. At that time the leaf shrivels up and is generally missed. This photo from Lake Hennessey, Napa County, CA.
