Goosefoot Violet (Viola purpurea venosa)

Goosefoot Violet (Viola purpurea venosa)

Goosefoot violet is a common species of open habitats that are very wet in the spring, but dry out by mid summer. It can be found at low elevations, but is more common on open ridges of middle and upper elevations in the mountains. It is often missed because early blooming occurs before many people get into the mountains due to snow. Its range includes most of the western U.S. and British Columbia. This photo is from the Wallowa Mountains of Oregon. May 1998.
