I came through on the Arizona Trail (Rim to rim- North Kaibab to Bright Angel). What a beautiful place to behold. I'd definitely come back. Amazing to see the sunrise and sunset on the Grand Canyon in one day. :)

We were there in the heat of summer both times and no one would hike with me below the rim. I am determined to get back and do a hike down to the bottom and back up.

While I was there in 2000 I did several short nature walks and exploratory hikes in the early morn and late evening and wish I taken more pictures.

Hiked the Bright Angel trail to the Phantom Ranch. It was an epic day hiking with my almost 69 year old father. My brothers and I got him there, but we paid the price by being on the trail about 5 hours too long. As a result we got caught in a 10-15 minute hail storm with hail as big as marbles. It wasn't fun to say the least. We got him out of there in a little over an hour of the time that it took to get down. Having climbed enough mountains, I can say that the GC from the Bright Angel trail is far easier than any mountain I have ever done.

Started at the North Rim and made the way down to Bright Angel Campground 14.2 miles away at the Colorado River. My group of 3 was lucky to get the last minute permits for the campgrounds. One night was spent at Bright Angel and another night at Cottonwood Campground about half way back to the North Rim.

4 days in the Canyon with perfect weather (maybe a bit too warm on the long slogs). Checked out the Royal Arch and Elves Chasm - very cool indeed. Rather enjoyed all the scrambling and wetness but not the 3-layer blister I received on the way out. Insane!

Grandfather took me out along the South Rim. Took the train in and saw most of the touristy sights. Amazing place indeed.

This was my second time into the Canyon and and second time down the New Hance. Despite the dire warnings of this trail, I found it to be pleasant and straightforward...as well as spectacular! My first time was in November of 2005.

S -> N was so much fun, I decided to hike N -> S the next day instead of taking the shuttle back. Side trip to Ribbon Falls was magical and the highlight of the trip. Did Havasupai as a warm-up hike the preceding day, making for a spectacular ~70-mile 3-day weekend.

Down the S Kaibab and up the N Kaibab to the N Rim for day 1. Day 2, rest day. Day 3, down to Phantom and up the Bright Angel to the S Rim.

Clear weather throughout. Cold on the rims and not too hot at the river.

Major crowds and a kind of tense atmosphere going down on the first day. This was the first day the N Rim was open and hordes of testosterone saturated ultra marathoners were making the first R2R of the year. Strange and overly intense folk! One even asked me "did you get a late start?". The nerve of the fellow!

Once they were out of the way, however, the Canyon was as lovely and welcoming as ever.

14 Hours S->N and under 12 N->S

Timed my rim hike to catch the setting full moon and the rising sun lighting up the cliffs. Got some beautiful pic's to share. Temp was 24 degrees and it was breezy, but I had the entire canyon to myself for the better part of two hours. --mark d.
