I enjoyed this as my first climb of the year. I got my blood flowing and found out how out of shape I'd become since last fall. Nice views of SLC.

Easy hike. It was nice to climb and I passed alot of people who went just to the pass. Meet a couple of guys (REI employees) who came up from the West Ridge.

In preperation for a trip to Rainier in a few months, we decided to shake the dust off of our Koflach's with a winter climb of Grandeur Peak. We encountered two large groups of elk, coyote tracks, and waist-deep snow in parts. It was an awesome trip and a pleasant beginning to the 2008 climbing season.

An enjoyable climb on a frosty fall morning. The terrain is fairly rugged with numerous trail options to reach the summit.

I've done both routes a few times, but the west slopes plays my knees on the way down every time. I agree with the posting below: best enjoyed sub-80 degrees.

I grew up looking up at these peaks... amazingly never did this hike until today. ~5 hour roundtrip from Church Fork picnic area - including a nice long break for lunch and views at the top. Very nice climb with my sons and niece.

Did the West Ridge route with The Steve. Made it up in about 90 minutes, with a 75 minute return. The return trip is a killer on your knees (lots of steep downhill). Consider using a car bridge to ascend West Ridge and descend on Church Fork.

I think this was my first mountain run. My second trip, Oct 2, 2011, was also a run from Church Fork, but this time continued from Grandeur along the ridge to Mt Aire and down to Elbow Fork, ~11 miles point to point (used a bike shuttle). It's a fun ridge for the most part, and was a beautiful day of pink bigtooth maples and yellow box elders and aspens, but the bushwhacking was a bit much for what I was (not) wearing: my legs have never been so scratched up from bushwhacking, and I've run a few other ridges in the area with unmaintained trails while dressed similarly.

Moogie737Multiple ascents in all kinds of weather.  Sucess!
Date Climbed: Jul 8, 2010

1st climb via Dragon's Tail on 5-31-05 w/ Ben. Ascent #5 11/22/06. Then 11/25/06, 11/30/06, 12/7/06, 2/26/07, 3/13/07, 3/22/07, 4/3/07, 4/19/07, 11-26-07. Virtually no snow as of today. Personal best of 1+15 from TH parking lot to summit. #15 12-20-07 - over one foot of fresh powder all the way to the top. Hard work but fun. #16 on 12-24-07 with even more snow. Windy on the summit - a storm is moving in! The storm moved in and dumped, so my 17th time to the summit was trail breaking all of thfe way (12-27-07). #18 on 1-24-08 from Church Fork. Tons of snow. #19 on 2-2-08, solo, from the west, booted it up and left message in the snow. Who found it? #20 on 2-26-08 w/ Lana & Brent as part of the Millcreek Ridge to Mt. Aire pass. Fab! #21 on 3-20-08 Solo, fresh snow, 1+55 up. #22 9-6-08 Set a new personal best on west route. #23 on 10-9-08 with Brent. Windy, cool. #24 on 10-14-08 w/ Dave, Robert & Zeejay. Cool but sunny Indian summer a.m. #25 on another sunny but windy morning 10-20-08. Solo. #26 11-8-08 Sun, fresh snow. Solo. #27 on 11-29-08 An anniversary hike marking two years. 1" of fresh snow near the top, slippery, icy during last 1/3 of climb. #28 on 12-6-08 w/ Brent. #29 12-12-08 solo - very slippery, almost scary! #30 on 12-20-08 w/ Brent. A driving west wind and tons of fresh powder threatened our resolve, but we kept going, reaching the summit in just under 3 tough hours. Trail breaking ALL the way and a less-than-inviting whiteout at the top. We love it! :) #31 12-24-08 Snowshoes all the way, some trailbreaking. Wind, wind, wind. Brrr. 2+07 up 1+17 down. Blowing sugar snow. #32 12-27-08 w/ Brent. Saw @ 21 elk. 2+27 up (breaking trail all the way) 1+45 down. #33 1-5-09 with Dave, Christine, Brrent & Lee. Snow, fog, wind - you name it. 2+17 up 1+32 down. #34 2-14-09 Valentine's Day gift. Solo. Broke trail all the way up in 3", 6" & lastly 12" of new powder. 2+12 up 1+15 down. #35 3-10-09 Fresh powder on icy, rocky subsurface = tough going. Solo. Broke trail entire way. 24 degrees, sw 15mph wind, brrr. 2+35 up 1+17 down. One of the more difficult efforts I've experienced on this little peak. #36 & #37 4-10-09 The "Two-fer" w/ climb up west route, descent down Church Fork, then reverse course and climb up C.F. and descend via west route. W/ Christine up first ascent, solo rest of way. Awesome snow totals above 7,000'. 7+30 total time. #38 & #39 6-6-09 w/ Brent. Another two-fer from the west side w/ total time of 5+10. #40 & #41 6-13-09 Two-fer w/ Brent & Christine 5+08. #42 8-20-09 Breezy but pleasant. #43 9-3-09 Solo 1+19 up, 0+57 down. #44 9-15-09 W/ Anne, Brent & Dave 1+23 up. #45 & #46 10-26-09 Two-fer, solo. 4+15 r/t total. #47 11-7-09 via Dragon's Tail route w/ Brent. #48 11-12-09 Solo; winds 40-50 mph from the south - nasty! #49 12-29-09 Solo Used microspikes the entire way up; broke trail in 2" of fresh powder; windy at summit, fog below, light snow falling. 1+26 up. #50 12-31-09 Breaking trail through 6" to 12" of new snow slows one down, but #50 is worth it: 2+06 up. #51 2-15-10 Much new snow - trailbreaking all the way up. #52 4-1-10 New snow, trailbreaking the entire route 2+55 up, 1+20 down. Windy and cold. A strenuous climb solo; a cruel kind of April Fool's joke. :) #53 4-8-10 Solo, booted it up in the frozen boot and snowshoe tracks to the summit which is now 3 feet higher because of deep snow. 1+45 up, 1+20 down. Bluebird day. #54 4-15-10 Tax Day celebration, lower half bare gnd, upper half frozen snow 1+36 up. #55 & 56 5-18-10 Two-fer, solo; drizzle and rain, some snow near summit, 4+33 r/t. #57 7-8-10 Lush green; 1+18 up, 1+04 down. West TH closed to cars for construction. #58 & #59 8-21-10 Two-fer, solo, hot and windy 4+53 r/t. #60 10-7-10 w/ Brent. #61 & 62 10-12-10 Two-fer, w/ Brent to 1st summit, then solo. 5+00 r/t. #63 11-2-10 Solo 1+16 up (west side north route) 1+00 down. #64 11-9-10 5" new snow, broke trail entire way 1+57 up 0+55 down. #65 11-13-10 W/ Brent. NW route. Slippery, lt snow, 1+56 up. #66 11-30-10 Besondere Jubilaeumsbesteigung mit viel Schnee. 2+32 auf 1+00 ab. #67 12-9-10 Solo. Icy, 1' snow last 700' vertical. 1+48 up. #68 12-16-10 5" new snow, boots only, 2+05 on slippery stuff after doing Mt. Wire (Big Beacon). Cold but sunny. #69 & #70 12-21-10 w/Dave. Snowshoes all the way; tough trailbreaking. A Grandeur double in 12" of new snow is a challenge. #71 1-20-11 Solo. Dedicated to my mother who is today celebrating her 93rd birthday. Fresh snow on top of crunchy, slippery iced-over old trail. But blue skies! #72 2-19-11 After climbing Big Beacon. Lost my trusty little Canon Elph on the way down - anyone find it? Then did 2/3 of Mt. Olympus before calling it quits for the day. #73 2-22-11 Solo. Biting SW winds, trailbreaking in ss last 2/3 mile. #74 & #75 3-1-11 1st summit with JohnParley, second one solo. Lotsa new snow. 7+07 r/t. #76 3-8-11 w/ JohnParley; 1' of new snow, trailbreaking all the way up after doing Mt Wire. 3+30 up. Tough. #77 3-26-11 A little birthday hike against the advice of my dermatologist (long story). Some new snow. 1+55 up. #78 4-9-11 Lots of new snow but booted it to the top; Dave joined me at the 7,600' level. Tons of newly fallen snow. #79 4-19-11 Solo. Booted it all the way in spite of deep snow on upper 1/3. 1+36 up. Snowing on the summit! #80 4-30-11 Solo. 6"-8" new snow, booted all the way. 1+49 up. Snowing the final 1,500'. #81 5-19-11 Solo. 1+32 up 1+08 down. Pouring rain for the first 1,000', then moderate snow and wind the final 1,000'. On top it was just like something in February. What a snow year it has been. :) #82 6-4-11 W/ Brent part way, part of Triple Play (Big Beacon, Grandeur & Mt. Olympus) 1+34 up, still snow along summit ridge! #83 6-9-11 W/ Brent. Warm. #91 & #92 10-3-11 Two-fer; total time 4+46. Start on west side, as usual. #93 & #94 10-8-11 Like last double except 8" of new wet snow and tons of debris on the Church Fork lower trail. :( #95 10-17-11 & #96 10-24-11 1+31 up #97 11-3-11 2nd leg of Triple Play (Mt.
